आपके घर में Electricity  का मीटर होना कोई नई बात नहीं रह गई है। अब पानी और गैस के Meter भी आसानी से नजर आने लगे हैं। वो मीटर भी बदलने लगे हैं और पुराने मीटर की जगह डिजिटल मीटर का इस्तेमाल किया जा रहा है. इन्हें स्मार्ट मीटर भी कहा जाता है। लेकिन क्या इन मीटरों का इस्तेमाल आपके घर पर नजर रखने या जासूसी करने के लिए किया जा सकता है? संयुक्त राज्य अमेरिका में हाल की घटनाओं से संकेत मिलता है।

इन मीटरों में क्या है?

हैश नाम का हैकर जानता था कि बिजली आपूर्ति कंपनी किस तरह के स्मार्ट मीटर का इस्तेमाल कर रही है। उसने अपनी कार के चारों ओर वायरलेस संदेश पढ़ना शुरू कर दिया। हैकर 40 किलोमीटर की यात्रा में 7,000 स्मार्ट मीटर के आंकड़े पढ़ने में सक्षम था। उन्होंने देखा कि अश्वेतों के बसे हुए क्षेत्रों में ब्लैकआउट और बिजली की कटौती अधिक प्रचलित थी। इस बात की जानकारी हैश ने पूरे आँकड़ों के साथ सोशल मीडिया पर शेयर की।

टेक्सास में कई लोगों के पास अपने थर्मोस्टेट के तापमान को स्वचालित रूप से बढ़ाने की सुविधा है यदि वे चाहें। इसका मतलब यह है कि अगर आपके स्मार्ट मीटर की जानकारी के आधार पर आपके डिवाइस को रिमोट से नियंत्रित किया जा सकता है, तो स्मार्ट मीटर को कई तरह की जानकारी मिल सकती है।

यह और भी खतरनाक है कि हैकर्स इन स्मार्ट मीटरों और कई घरेलू उपकरणों को निशाना बना सकते हैं। हाल ही में, कुछ हैकरों ने संयुक्त राज्य के कई हिस्सों में पाइपलाइनों को अवरुद्ध करने के लिए रैंसमवेयर का उपयोग किया। उस व्यवस्था को ठीक करने के लिए अमेरिकी सरकार को लाखों डॉलर खर्च करने पड़े।
